Dr. Crowe has accepted an invitation to join the advisory board of Fibroid Relief as an international adviser. Fibroid Relief was launched by the non-profit Focused Ultrasound Surgery (FUS) Foundation to increase patient awareness and access to new treatment options for uterine fibroids.
The organisation has done much excellent work in North America to raise awareness of non-invasive fibroid treatments, particularly MRI guided focused ultrasound ablation (MRgFUS). Activities range from patient education events and web resources to lobbying insurers and health service providers to influence those who approve the introduction of new treatment options.
Fibroid Relief is extending its activities to the international arena, particularly the UK and Europe with a patient education event being planned for late 2009 in London. Dr. Crowe is delighted to be part of this initiative and is joined by his partner in the Birmingham Fibroid Clinic, Consultant Gynaecologist Miss Shirin Irani, who has also taken up a similar advisory role.
